How do I get started?
First, keep checking out my website. Understand that the patient provider relationship is one of the most important variables in successful treatment. So, it’s really important for you to feel comfortable with your therapist and confident in their skills.

Second, I do not accept insurance.

Third, contact me by phone or use the handy form on this site to send me an e-mail. Make sure to let me know it you have any questions.

What are your fees?
The fee for the initial psychotherapy session is $150. After the first appointment, my standard fee for psychotherapy session is $100. I am able to see a very limited number of patients at a lower, adjusted fee.
My fees for wellness classes vary, with courses priced between $50-$100.

My situation is complicated. Can we talk before scheduling an appointment?
Yes, let’s make that happen. In fact, I prefer to talk with every prospective client over the phone for a few minutes. This helps us both decide if we are a good match to work together.

You are welcome to contact me to set up a free 15-minute phone consultation.

Do you prescribe medication?
No, Psychotropic medications are usually prescribed by a psychiatrist or other physician. You will need to complete the Authorization to Disclose Information Form if you would like me to coordinate care with another provider (for example, your psychiatrist, primary care physician, etc.). I am happy to collaborate with other health care professionals who are treating my clients, if that is your preference. I will provide you with recommendations or referrals to psychiatrist or other physicians if I feel medication or medical assessment would be beneficial.

It is vital to your success in treatment to seek the appropriate care that you need from the appropriate provider. For example, if you have a foot problem, you would not go to a cardiologist or gynecologist, but rather you would likely need to visit with a podiatrist or orthopedist who specializes in the foot and ankle. It is the same with mental health care; successful treatment is dependent on seeking the right mental health professionals to meet your needs. For my own mental health, I have found not everyone suits me or my needs. It is imperative that you find the right person for you but stick with people who work SPECIFIALLY in mental health for all mental health services.

Medications can be helpful in treatment but keep in mind that a pill does not replace a skill.   Research shows that for lasting change and healing counseling is a key factor. Medication can be necessary in some cases of mental disorders...yes, sometimes medication is absolutely necessary in treatment. Even then, counseling combined with medication is more likely to produce optimal results than medication alone. For other less severe problems, some of my clients prefer at least to try medicine, while others prefer to avoid it, if possible. Either position is reasonable. Contrary to drug company propaganda, many (not all) mental disorders respond well to counseling alone.

What should I expect on my first appointment?
Allow 90 minutes for your first appointment. Your appointment begins by talking about your history and your treatment goals. We will talk about my observations and treatment options. I welcome your questions about your symptoms, treatment concerns and objectives. Therapy is different for everyone, depending on your goals and objectives. You and I will tailor your sessions to work best for your individual specific needs. For instance, you may want your therapy sessions to be highly structured with specific goals and assignments and suggested reading material or you may desire more of an insight-oriented approach with little structure. The first few visits will be part of an assessment phase where we will build rapport and trust, as well as collaborate on a plan for treatment.

How can I schedule an appointment?
I have a "No Waiting List Policy." However, please keep in mind my private practice accepts a limited number of clients as it is a part-time business. Unfortunately, I am not always accepting new clients. It really just depends on my clinical workload at the time. However, the way we see it, if you're ready to begin therapy; I am going to ensure that I get you an appointment ASAP if I am able. Most new clients have an appointment within 24 hours of their call.

I respect each client's time and it is a priority to see you within 15 minutes of your scheduled appointment. Generally, I can see you within a week of your request for an appointment. You can reach me via e-mail or telephone. I will personally contact you within 24 hours, if you are not already an established client. I take pride in making that initial contact with you in order to answer any questions you may have, and to help you feel more at ease prior to your first visit.

To make an appointment call 903-708-2012.

All calls at all hours will be retrieved personally by me and returned within 24 hours. If you are an established patient, you will receive a call back in a few hours. Special arrangements may be made for urgent appointments during nonscheduled business hours for established clients only.

In case of an emergency please contact your local hospital,
call 911 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 488.

Can therapy help me?
All too often and for too long, we suffer without knowing the cause. Therapy can help. Therapy assists clients in identifying the unconscious, maladaptive patterns that get in the way of professional success, the development of meaningful relationships, and the management of difficult emotions such as depression, anxiety, and anger. *Thousands of studies have shown that counseling is highly effective and personally meaningful; is beneficial for a wide variety of difficulties, symptoms, and disorders; offers sustained long-term benefits/positive changes; can improve overall health; is effective for people of all ages.

Research has clearly and consistently found counseling to be effective. Will it work for you? Chances are good that it will, but it is important to remember that every person is different and, as with many other activities, you will get out of it what you put into it.

*Information drawn from Ladd & Archer, 2006 and the American Psychological Association (www.apa.org)

How often will I need to come in?
When clients are very distressed, they generally need to come in about once per week. For less distressing problems, or when things start to go better, clients normally come in once every other week, once a month, or as- needed. Clients concerned about cost are more likely to opt for less frequent visits. This is okay, as long as my client is getting adequate care.

Do you offer a reduced rate or sliding fee schedule?
No, I do not do this, because I don't think it is fair. If I call a plumber, he doesn't ask me how much I earn before he decides how much he will charge me for unplugging my sink. Like a plumber, I provide a useful service for a fee.
Although I do not have a formal sliding scale, I am sympathetic to the concerns of low-income people. Therefore, when a highly motivated (must be highly motivated), low-income client badly needs my services, I may negotiate a fee reduction on a case-by-case basis. I only take on about one or two these cases per year.

You are my friend, family member, educational associate and/or business associate - my son (other friend or family member) has problems X, Y, and Z. Can you please help?
Please be advised I DO NOT provide counseling services to previous or current family members, personal friends or their family members, educational associates or business associates.
